Responsibility for a blue future
Two possible journeys of a bottle
The same bottle either drifts into the depths of the sea or becomes the raw material for a new fabric. Follow the first journey, then the second.
01Surface
A bottle, drifting in silence
Every year, 19–23 million tonnes of plastic waste enter lakes, rivers and seas. The journey often begins like this, in silence.2
02Sinking
The light fades, the plastic stays
Waves and sunlight do not destroy plastic; they wear it down, slowly breaking it into smaller pieces.
03Fragmentation
Smaller, until it disappears from view
The pieces become microplastics. An estimated 16–35% of the primary microplastics reaching the oceans come from washing synthetic textiles.34
04Depth
Unseen is not gone
As the fragments shrink, they get harder to track, but they do not disappear. This is the silent scream of the oceans: out of sight, out of mind.
05Another path
Before it reaches the sea
When the same bottle is collected and sorted, the story changes. It stops being waste and becomes raw material.
06Transformation
From bottle to fibre
On the Q ECO route, cleaned PET becomes granulate, and the granulate becomes fine microfilaments.0 07Second life
A fabric built to last
The filaments become a surface that can be used and washed many times over. Recycled PET is still a polyester, which is why we care about long service life and product-level measurement.
